Investment Planning

Back to Financial Planning: Overview

We view money as a tool to enable our clients to meet their life goals. Our primary objective is to design portfolio and investment strategies that will help our clients to live the life of their design while taking on no more risk than is needed to accomplish those goals.

For many clients, the primary objective is to build and preserve wealth. More often, however, the financial and/or family situation is more complex, and clients have multiple goals, varying time frames, and different tax considerations, all of which need to be taken into account.

Because of these complexities, we provide our clients with portfolios that are individually tailored to help meet their specific needs. We will recommend an investment strategy that attempts to maximize the investment return for the given level of risk, that is, a level of risk determined to be appropriate based on the client's goals, time horizon, and risk tolerance.

Since there is a trade-off between return and risk (volatility), our process does not ask our clients to sacrifice return or to accept more volatility than is acceptable to them. It simply asks them to communicate openly with us, to recognize that return and risk go hand-in-hand, and to help us to find the appropriate balance for their specific situation.

The strategy takes shape through a number of steps:

  1. Establish the investment objectives.
  2. Design the asset allocation mix.
  3. Select the investments and implement portfolio design.
  4. Monitor and rebalance the portfolio.
  5. Communicate and report on a regular basis.
